So, where did our name come from? 1:100 is the scale where it all happens! It's that zone where a designer translates a sketch into something more concrete. They start to consider the details; how the building is really going to work. It is in this scale that the building really starts to take shape. We think that our work has the same effect. It is another transition in the journey of a building becoming a reality. Architectural rendering gives designers, developers and buyers a sneak preview of their building. They get to see what their building is really going to look like!

Deal with people who understand architecture

At One to One Hundred, we only hire modellers with architectural experience. Our team has an excellent understanding of how buildings are put together and can make sense of complex construction drawings. They can communicate fluently with architects and designers and have a good knowledge of furniture, finishes and structure. As a result, we require less direction and make more informed design decisions when necessary.

We care about our work just as much as you care about your design!

We see each job as a collaborative effort between the designer, the client and ourselves. With good communication and direction, we can exceed even our client’s greatest expectations. We believe that we can give you the best possible marketing material! Let us show you a richly detailed vision of your project that is not only photorealistic, but stylish and full of drama and life. Please view our gallery, showreel and testimonials to see and hear just how good your next project could be!

Make sure you're getting the best marketing for your project!

Many firms use the term 'photorealistic' far too loosely. At One to One Hundred, we're honest about what that term really means. Our understanding is that a 'photorealistic' image is indistinguishable from a photograph, at least at first glance - which even with the amazing technology available to 3D artists, is no mean feat. Because we understand this challenge, we know what it takes to do truly 'real' looking work. We're not trying to fool you or your clients with words we can't live up to. We hope our gallery speaks for itself. So if you want the best, you've come to the right place.

Company History

Company Directors and close friends, David and Jamie, graduated from the Auckland School of Architecture at the end of 2003. They took graduate architect positions at Ignite Architects where they worked predominantly on large residential and commercial buildings. They quickly discovered that there was an unexploited niche market for high quality 3D renderings. One to One Hundred was therefore incorporated in July 2004! David and Jamie would continue to work at Ignite for a further 2 years doing 3D rendering in their evenings and weekends. This gave the business time to mature and David and Jamie the architectural experience that now helps them work so well with architects and developers. David and Jamie finally took the business full-time in mid 2006 having already built up a strong client base. At this point they invested heavily in re-branding and marketing the company. They took on their first employee shortly after, and invested in an impressive render farm. Things really started to take off for One to One Hundred when they released their first showreel in early 2007. Since then the company has grown steadily and now has many of Auckland’s top architects and developers as clients.David and Jamie aspire to make a truly international company of One to One Hundred and to continue to raise the bar for architectural visualisation. Please read on for an insight into their personal philosophies.

Director_David Hillier BArch (Hons)

David spent the first three years after graduating from his architecture degree with the firm Ignite. His evenings and weekends, however, along with those of his business partner, Jamie, were spent growing their computer modelling business. The fact that this business is now a thriving young company, and that Ignite is one of its most valued clients, is testimony to both his drive and his work ethic.

Like Jamie, an interest in style and design has always been a part of David's life. This love of all things visual flows through to a broad interest in art, fashion and film. His particular enthusiasm for movies has even seen him participating on more than one occasion in the 48 hour film-making weekends, though so far without much directorial success!

Goal-oriented and focused, David makes a point of maximizing every moment of his life. Just as involvement in sport and cultural activities played a significant role during his years at Auckland Grammar, so do they now. The once talented rugby player now channels his energies towards running, gyming, snowboarding and diving.

Having experienced the trials and tribulations of running his own business, he can no longer imagine doing anything else. He is the first point of contact for their many and varied clients, overviewing projects and delegating work. He is still actively involved in the modelling, ensuring that the quality of each job meets his own high standards.

David particularly loves dining-out and enjoys time with both family and his many friends. He has travelled widely, once on a Western Heritage Tour to Europe and more recently, with time from the business being at a premium, closer to home. With any luck, the expansion of One to One Hundred into even more overseas projects will enable him to explore this opportunity further.

“The decision to study architecture has had a massive impact on my life. I have always had a passion for architecture, but architecture school refined this interest and opened my eyes to an amazing world of style and creativity. It gave me more than just an appreciation for buildings – it gave me a regard for design in general. Jamie and I have tried to bring this sense of style into our company image and especially into our work.”

“I want One to One Hundred to be seen as an innovative company. We are a young company but I think we’re doing some of the best architectural visualisation in the country. I think our product is so good because we are so passionate about both architecture and 3D graphics. We are always trying to push things that little bit further with each new project and I think that means that our clients get great value from using us. They get the best we can give.”

“I do miss the design side of things but I love the exposure and involvement in architecture that 3D modelling gives me. We are working with some of the top architects and developers in the country on some truly impressive projects. We get to bring their 2D sketch or design to life!”

Art has always been a part of Jamie’s life. From a young age he has taken an interest in photography, drawing, painting and music, and has taken that appreciation with him into adulthood. After studying architecture at Auckland University and gaining a working understanding of the industry, Jamie’s passion for 3D modeling and visualisation lead him to co-found One to One Hundred with David.

Jamie continues to indulge his passion for music, and is responsible for writing and recording professionally in the studio and is currently involved with an Auckland band. He still enjoys painting and drawing, and his work can be seen hanging on the walls of many North Shore homes!

In this 24/7 world, Jamie finds sport an excellent way to release stress and is a regular at his local squash and tennis courts. He is also an avid moviegoer, and is not particular about genre – he enjoys everything from animated to action, from comedy to crime, from documentary to drama. Because he prefers forming his own opinion to accepting someone else’s review, Jamie’s personal DVD collection grows on a weekly basis and is testament to his love of cinematography.

Coming from a large, close family has given Jamie strong values on what is important in life – he thoroughly enjoys spending time with family and friends, and is at his happiest on the family farm outdoors in the Waikato.

“New Zealand has an Oscar award winning reputation in computer graphics. Peter Jackson and Weta Digital have certainly made their mark on an international scale. However, in New Zealand architectural visualisation often falls short of the international standard. There is no excuse for bad visualisation yet there is still a lot of it around. An architectural project is a huge investment and time after time marketing is overlooked.”

“I believe One to One Hundred can take a design, be it a bunch of 2D CAD drawings or a sketch scribbled on a napkin and turn it into visual masterpiece.  Everyone at One to One Hundred is dedicated to your vision. We don’t skimp - if the time is available, we will make it perfect.”

“Research and development is an integral part of our business. It is very important for us to keep up with the latest industry standard; to try new technology and keep moving forward. Our industry is fast paced and it is easy to be left behind. We are constantly upskilling whether it is hardware integration or architectural design.  At One to One Hundred we are on it!”
